DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 15: Assam Police clinched the last remaining quarter finals berth in Group G on the ultimate day of league rounds in the 65th BN Mullik All India Police Football Championship 2016. The northeast team defeated Maharashtra Police by a score of 2-1 in an exciting do-or-die match for the two teams. They will meet Assam Rifles in the knockout stage which will be played on Wednesday.
In the other matches today, Lakshadweep Police defeated CISF 2-0 in Group A. ITBP blanked Andhra Pradesh Police 3-0 in the last Group B encounter while Sikkim Police outplayed Chandigarh Police by a similar margin in Group C.
Arunachal Police and RPF played out a 1-1 draw in Group D. Tripura Police also drew 3-3 with Chhattisgarh Police in Group E. Bihar Police dominated over Gujarat Police with a 5-1 win in Group F while Delhi Police and Meghalaya Police played out a goalless draw in Group H.
MGOS, Dimapur felicitates Kerela Police team
Mar Gregorios Orthodox Syrian Church (MGOS), Dimapur felicitated Kerala Police Football Team at the Church in a public meeting on Church Feast Day that was held on November 13.
During the meeting chief celebrant HG Mathews Mar Theodosius highlighted their achievements and felicitated footballer IM Vijayan (Arjuna award winner and former Indian football player) and CV Pappachan (former Indian football team captain).
Inivalappil Mani Vijayan, commonly known as IM Vijayan, played for Indian team from 1989 to 2004 and his record for the fastest International goal by 12 seconds against Bhutan is yet to be broken. He played for Kerala Police, Mohun Began, JCT Mills, F C Cochin, East Bengal Club, Churchill Brothers among others.
CV Pappachan, former Indian football team captain, has played many national and international matches in Indian team. He also represented Kerala in the Santhosh Trophy 8 times from 1986 to 1996, and in 1987 he was a member of the winning team and presently serves as the Deputy Commandant of India Reserve Betallion, Trissur.
