Assam literary pension awardee RS Paswan felicitated

[caption id="attachment_114473" align="alignleft" width="550"] Assam Literary Pension awrdee RS Paswan (C) being honoured by Bokajan Bakhanta Utsav Udjapan Samiti on Tuesday night.[/caption] Dimapur, May 10 (EMN): Bokajan Bakhanta Utsav Udjapan Samiti felicitated noted Assamese litterateur and social worker RS Paswan on being honoured with Assam Literary Pension by the Assam government on the second day of the three-day Bihu Sanmilan at Bokajan in Karbi Anglong district on Tuesday night. He is the fourth recipient of Assam Literary Pension from Dimapur. Hailing from Jorhat in Assam and presently a resident of Dimapur, Paswan was among 47 Assamese litterateurs to have received Assam Literary Pension announced by the Government of Assam during the 70th Independence Day on August 15, 2016. He was felicitated by Bokajan Bakhanta Utsav Udjapan Samiti president Mahendra Saikia with an Assamese japi and a citation.The Assam Government also honoured Paswan with Assam Literary Award 2013-2014. Addressing the gathering, Paswan elaborated on his passion for Assamese literature and how he imbibed the love for it through the founders of Dimapur Namghar like GC Paira, Hari Prasad Gorkha Rai and Dhan Bahadur Sonar. He also expressed immense gratitude to Bokajan Bakhanta Utsav Udjapan Samiti for honouring and reposing faith in him. The Samiti expressed deep happiness and pride in Paswan on being honoured with Assam Literary Pension and Assam Literary Award by the Assam government and further exhorted him to continue his passion for Assamese literature. Paswan was associated with the Assamese society in Bokajan since 1975. He was also involved in various kinds of social works in Nagaland and Assam since the time he was serving the Department of Food and Civil Supplies, Nagaland. Paswan has several Assamese novels to his credit, one of which was translated into English and contributed a number of articles to various Assamese dailies. He retired as a senior officer of Food and Civil Supplies Department, Nagaland and currently a practicing advocate in Dimapur court. He is presently the president of Art of Living, Dimapur unit.
