Samo Jamir was declared as the winner of first Nagaland song-writing contest that was organised by a local events group, DK’s Entertainment Group. The event, conducted at the Green Park in Dimapur on Saturday, September 10, was organized with the theme “tapping the untapped talents.”
The second and third prizes were bagged by Chumdemo Merry and Moko Koza, in that order. Commendations were also given to participants Pauranglungbe, P Lam, and Tiamongba.
90 participants registered for the contest on Saturday.
The contest is opportune for song-writing enthusiasts as the Naga people have interest in music, said Supongnukshi, chief conservator of Forest. He was the chief guest of the music event.

Stating that there was a ‘sparkle in every Naga’s eyes when it comes to music,’ Supongnukshi called upon the participants to use their ‘power of writing for a constructive society as the content of our writing conveys message to people and has the ability to shape and change the society.’
Stating that the skills of writing or composing are equal to creative thinking, the official persuaded the youngsters to ‘use their power of writing in a positive manner as the influence lies within an individual and the gift should not be misused.’
Locally-celebrated musician Alobo Naga, also the chief judge of the contest, reminded the aspiring artistes that song-writing was ‘always a good option as a career.’ The musician remarked that in Nagaland people tend to become ‘self-interested and want to attempt all career without focus.’ This leads to failure and their giving up, he said. He encouraged the participants to work on their passion with focus and connect with the people with their creativity.
An upcoming artist, Kezia Semy, also released an original called ‘Walk in Gospel’ during the event. The song was written by Senti Longchar and its music composed by Lichen Kichu.
