MOKOKCHUNG, NOVEMBER 13: Subject toppers in Ao subject for Classes X and XII were felicitated in a programme organised by Ao Senden Literature Board (ASLB) with Sademmenla, District Education Officer, Mokokchung, gracing the occasion as the chief guest.
In her speech, Sademmenla lauded the teachers for their dedication in imparting Ao language and motivating students to choose the subject in their school curriculum.
Speaking on the importance of mother language in the Naga context, she encouraged the gathered students to give more importance to one’s mother tongue in an era when speaking English and Nagamese have become a fashion. She asked them to uplift Ao language to safeguard one’s identity and thereby avoid creating communication barrier with one’s tribesmen.
She also asked the gathered Ao tribal organisation leaders and teachers to take the good example of Tenyimies in their promotion of Tenyidie as a language and try to promote and take Ao language to a higher level through co-operation.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Asongla, while introduction and significance of the programme was offered by Prof. Lanunungsang, Retired Pro Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University and Chairman ASLB. Short speeches were also delivered by J Zulu Jamir, PA to DC, Mokokchung, and Moachila, President of Watsü Mungdang.
Coinciding with the programme, winners of an inter-school essay competition on the topic “Importance of mother language” organised by ASLB were also felicitated. Winners of the essay writing competition in Ao language which was sponsored by Jemti Mollier Trust Award were Reshiben Walling of JMHSS, Sentirenla Longkumer of QMHSS) and Imser ofJMHSS in first, second and third respectively.
