Niuland administration bans import and transport of pigs and pork after African Swine Fever outbreak reported in neighbouring Assam.

DIMAPUR — Niuland district administration on Friday imposed a temporary ban on the import of pigs and piglets, as well as transport of live pigs and pork from outside the district, following reports of an outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in several districts of neighbouring Assam.
In an order, Deputy Commissioner Sara S Jamir stated that the ban, which comes into effect immediately, has been imposed in the interest of public health and safety to prevent the possible spread of the disease into Niuland.

According to the order, the restriction will remain in force until the spread of the disease is curbed or authorities deem it safe to resume the import and movement of pigs.
The district administration warned that any violation of the order will invite action under relevant provisions of law.
