Kohima, Oct. 8 (EMN): The first art camp organised by the Gallery of Contemporary Art (GoCA) as an initiative of the Task Force for Music and Arts (Tafma) is underway at the Regional Centre for Excellence in Music and Performing Arts (RCEMPA) at Jotsoma village near Kohima town.
The camp is a hundred-day project of Tafma. It started on October 7 and will culminate on October 10. Ten artists are participating in the event.
The Tafma’s advisor Theja Meru told this reporter at the venue that the artists are professionals and their work will be displayed at the RCEMPA.
Meru said another art camp will be held in the early part of 2020 that will have national and international artists besides local artists participating.
An artist Cythia Kolakhe, who is also a visiting faculty for art and drama in B Ed. Colleges, said she developed a passion for art from childhood. Commenting on the initiatives of the Tafma, she said, “The art camp is very interesting. We are not only painting, we are also interacting with co-artist. Every artist has different style and we try to learn from each other.”
“Three lady” is a painting she is creating at the camp. ‘It represents our Naga culture.’
Another participant, Akup Buchem, is a postgraduate in sculpture from Kolkata. He said art is a medium top educate people and shared ideas. He is painting shawls of Naga tribes.

“Art camp is educative, interactive and learning process for everyone,” Buchem said.
Another artist Lemsentong, the proprietor and the artist of ‘IL Tattoo Studio’ at the Red Cross Complex in Kohima expressed appreciation for the camp. He said, “It’s an opportunity for hidden talents. A good platform to promote young Naga artists.”
