Dimapur, June 5 (EMN): An Army major was among two personnel injured during an attack by the suspected NSCN (K) cares in Mon district, according to a report in The New Indian Express on Tuesday.
“According to defence sources, the attack was carried out at around 2:20 am on Tuesday. A group of the militants fired a barrage of shots targeting a ‘Charlie company’ of the 41 Assam Rifles at Lempong Shingha in eastern Nagaland’s Mon district. The site is around 17 km away from district headquarters Mon.
“The troops of the Assam Rifles retaliated instantly and the firefight continued for a few minutes following which the militants fled under the cover of darkness, the sources said. Major Sahil Sharma, the company commander who is on deputation with the Assam Rifles, sustained minor injuries in the incident. However, Rifleman RN Modak was grievously injured and evacuated to the military hospital in Assam’s Jorhat,” the report read.
It cited defence sources as saying that the army was suspecting the involvement the NSCN-K in the incident. “When reports last came in, the security forces launched a massive hunt for the militants,” according to the report.
