Arms license holders asked to deposit arms within 7 days

Dimapur, Jan. 20 (EMN): The district election officer of Mokokchung district Sachin Jaiswal has issued an order directing all licensed arms holders to deposit their arms and ammunitions to their respective police station within a period of seven days. The officer, also deputy commissioner of the district, said in the order that the prevailing law and order situation had been reviewed and examined minutely in view of the announcement of election to the 13th State Legislative Assembly elections. It is necessary to keep all the licensed arms in safe custody of police stations to ensure maintenance of law and order during election in the district, the order stated. However, any individual wishing to appeal against this order may submit written justification for retaining licensed arms to the deputy commissioner during all office working days. The deposited arms and ammunitions may be withdrawn one week after the declaration of the election result.
