Armed Naga Groups: 134 members arrested for crimes in 2024

Intelligence Wing of Nagaland Police reported that a total of 134 ‘UG
members’—those belonging to various armed Naga groups—were arrested during 2024
in connection with various crimes, including extortion, abduction and
kidnapping, and offences under Arms Act.
- This was stated in the annual administrative report of Home
Department 2024-25.
- The report shows that in 2024, three UG personnel were
killed in ‘violent crime incidents’. It stated that the police arrested 66 UG
members, security forces arrested 25, and 43 UG members were arrested jointly
by the police and security forces.
- Distribution of the case and arrests shows that 22 cases of
abduction and kidnapping were registered, out of which 14 cases were related to
UGs, whereby a total of 33 UGs were arrested in connection with abduction and
kidnapping.
- Also in 2024, a total of 60 cases of extortion were
registered, out of which 50 cases were related to UGs; in this connection, 57
UG members were arrested. A total of 53 cases in connection with Arms Act were
registered, out of which 24 cases were related to UGs, and a total of 32 UG
members were arrested.
- The department also registered 11 murder cases, out of which
two cases were related to UGs. Nine other cases involving the UGs were
registered, resulting in 12 arrests.
- The report also shows that 56 arms, 333 ammos and 40
magazines were seized by the police intelligence wing team during 2024.
- Further, 16 UG cadres and two civilians were detained under
the National Security Agency (NSA), and 11 cases were applied under the
Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) Act.
