Armed miscreants abducted the VDB secretary from Thonoknyu village in Noklak district, prompting strong condemnation and a call for swift action.

DIMAPUR — Unidentified gunmen reportedly stormed the residence of the Village Council chairman of Thonoknyu in Noklak district and abducted the Village Development Board (VDB) secretary in the early hours of Thursday.
In a press release, the Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) expressed “deep concern and strong condemnation” over the incident, terming it a “heinous and cowardly act” and a “direct assault on peace, security and democratic values.”
It demanded that the perpetrators be brought to justice without delay.

According to the council, unknown assailants in camouflage uniforms and armed with sophisticated weapons reportedly stormed the residence of the Village Council chairman at midnight, issuing threats, before abducting the VDB secretary.
The incident has caused widespread fear and insecurity among the villagers and poses a serious threat to peace and normalcy in the area, it stated.

Urging the authorities to take “immediate and effective measures” to apprehend the culprits, the TTC appealed to law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of all government functionaries and civilians in the affected area.
In a separate letter addressed to the superintendent of police, Noklak, the TTC requested immediate deployment of security personnel to Thonoknyu village to maintain law and order and secure the release of the abducted VDB secretary.
The council further appealed to “all right-thinking individuals, village authorities and civil society organisations” to stand united against such acts of violence and extend full cooperation to the authorities in restoring peace and normalcy.
