IMPHAL, Dec 20: The Assam Regimental Centre (ARC) Shillong created history by entering in the final of the ongoing Manipur’s oldest premier soccer championship known as 60th Sir Churachand memorial football tournament or CC Meet for the second time by Southern Sporting Union (SSU) by a solitary goal on Tuesday.
In the first semi final match of the football tourney played here this afternoon at the Mapal Kangjeibung ground in the heart of Imphal town, ARC Shillong’s striker N Rakesh Singh score the lone goal in the 17th minute of the game.
The players of SSU which is known as the dark horse of tourney because of its wonderful performance in the last few matches, tried their best to produce the equalizer after 67th minute of the game. But they couldn’t make it till the final whistle of the match.Once ARC Shillong bagged the runner’s title of the CC meet while NEROCA FC Sangakpham won the winner’s title in 2012.
The tournament is being organized by All Manipur Football Association (AMFA) since December 4 this year with active participation of more than 20 football teams including teams from out state. In the second semi final match, Kangpokpi district giant FC Zalen will meeting former CC meet champion NEROCA FC Shangakpham tomorrow.The final will be played on December 22.
