Dimapur, June 20 (EMN): Personnel from the Assam Rifles Training Centre and School (ARTC&S), Sukhovi village, managed to rescue four civilians from drowning on June 18 at around 7:45 pm.
“On June 18 at around 7:45 pm, a gypsy carrying five civilian passengers was crossing Disagphu rivulet near Pimla gate of ARTC&S. The water level of river had dangerously swelled due to torrential rains and a sudden flash flood which swept the gypsy along with the passengers downstream,” a defence release stated on Saturday.
It stated that the sentry post at Pimla gate immediately raised an alarm wherein Col. PJ Prabhakaran along with Lt. Col. Saurabh Aithmian and his team rushed to the spot to rescue drowning civilians in pitch darkness from slippery banks of the gushing river.
It added that the Assam Rifles rescue team could manage to retrieve four passengers and saved their lives by pulling them out from the river safely.
The release added that the rescue effort was highly appreciated by the family members and neighbouring villagers.
In an unrelated incident, troops of the Assam Rifles seized huge quantities of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from 2.5 Mile, Dimapur, on June 19.
The consignment was confiscated from a Bolero pick-up bearing registration No. NL-07A-6335, which was left abandoned in an isolated area, a defence release stated.
The troops recovered 90 cases of Kingfisher beer (strong) and Kingfisher beer (premium) worth INR 7, 00,000 from the truck. The release added that the vehicle along with the seized liquor were handed over to East Police Station, Dimapur.
