Dimapur, May 26 (EMN): Altogether 338 Myanmar nationals mostly women and children who had crossed the International boundary to the Indian side in South Mizoram were seeking refuge and asylum to evade atrocities from Myanmar based Insurgent group ‘Arakan Army’.
However with the collective efforts of Assam Rifles and Civil Administration, Saiha, Mizoram the refugees were successfully repatriated to their home.
The influx of Myanmari refugees occurred at village Lungpuk and Khaikhy in Saiha district, where the villagers from Ralei village in Myanmar traversed to the Indian side.
Assam Rifles being the first responder for the Indo-Myanmar Border immediately sprung into action and sent its team from forward posts. In order to handle the situation and ensure safe and peaceful return of the refugees to Myanmar senior officer like Lieutenant Colonel was also sent along with his team including Medical Officer from Lunglei.
The team had provided medical and humanitarian assistance to the refugees.
The persistent efforts of troops of Assam Rifles under Headquarter Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) who were present at Lungpuk village from the very first day along with the support of DC Saiha, SP Saiha, village council of Lungpuk resulted in paving the pathway for repatriation of the refugees safely back to their homes.
On May 24, the repatriation of the refugees was organized at International Boundary Pillar No 15 of Indo Myanmar Border wherein the VCP of Ralei village, Myanmar, Chebei came to take back the villagers who had fled from the their village.
The villagers who came from Ralei village Myanmar to receive the refugees confided that the Arakan Army Insurgents who were present in the village and surrounding area have gone to other undisclosed location towards Myanmar and that the village is safe from any threats.
In order to ensure the safety of the refugees, the Assam Rifle troops escorted the villagers till International Boundary Pillar No 15. On their, the VCP of Ralei village, Chebei who had received the villagers conveyed his gratitude to VCP of Lungpuk, Rachu, Assam Rifles, District Commissioner of Saiha, SP Saiha and MADC for all their support and assistance provided to his villagers during the time of crisis.
