
Kohima battalion of the Assam Rifles donated essential furniture items to Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima (GPPK) on February 7.
A defence release stated that the battalion has donated office tables, dining tables and chairs during a programme presided over by Brig. Herjinder Singh, DIG 5 Sector Assam Rifles, as the chief guest.
The event started with a visit to Maa Singha Devi Temple followed by felicitation and cultural programme. During the event, Assam Rifles felicitated seven ex-servicemen (ESM) and 10 senior citizens of GPPK.
Addressing the gathering, Singh has expressed gratitude to the Gorkha Public Panchayat for their noble work towards society.
A total of 80 personnel including ESM from Gorkha community attended the event.
In another programme, Jalukie battalion of the Assam Rifles extended assistance to orphan children by distributing essential commodities at Alpha Orphange Home in New Jalukie Village under Peren district on February 7.
Apart from providing essentials, awareness on importance of education was imparted to the children. The children were also informed about the various health and hygiene precautions to be taken during the ongoing cold season.
It stated that the supervisor and children of the orphanage home have expressed gratitude to the Assam Rifles for their generosity and charitable work towards poor and needy people in remote areas.
Meanwhile, Tuensang battalion of the Assam Rifles bade farewell to Hav. K Binchoba Chang, who passed away in an unfortunate incident on February 5 in Mizoram while in the line of duty.
The mortal remains of Hav. Binchoba Chang were received by his family on February 7. It stated that the battalion has performed the last rites with full military honours.
Further, Kiphire Battalion of the Assam Rifles provided auto solar street lights to village council chairmen and gaon buras of 11 villages during a programme held on February 7. The beneficiary villages included Khukishe, Khekiye, Tukhinkiu, Tekinvong, Salumi, Khongsa, Moya, Sangkhumati, Metonger, Hosephu and Vongtsuvong under Kiphire district.
