Dimapur, Aug. 30 (EMN): Basing on intelligence inputs regarding presence of armed cadre carrying out extortion, Dimapur battalion of Assam Rifles along with a state police representative swung into action and arrested one person with arms and ammunitions from Signal Basti, Dimapur, on August 27.
The suspect was commuting in Hyundai i-10 car at the time of his arrest.
According to the defence press release, the individual was identified as I Hojeshe Sumi (38), deputy secretary NSCN (KN) and son of Inaxu Sumi, a resident of Signal Basti, Dimapur.
Security forces recovered one .32mm Pistol, seven live rounds of .32 mm, three live rounds of .22mm, one fired case of .32mm, one fired case of .22mm and 21 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon.
The release further stated that the accused along with recovered items were handed over to Sub-Urban Police Station, Dimapur, for further investigation.
In another incident, Kohima battalion of the Assam Rifles arrested two persons from Jail Colony, Kohima, on August 29.
The two accused were suspected to be cadres of NSCN (R). They were identified ‘ss’ Captain Akhe Chokhe (40) and ‘ss’ 2nd Lieutenant Kesheyi R Sakso (38) from Phek district.
A defence release stated that the accused persons had admitted indulging in extortions from various shopkeepers in Jail colony, Kohima. It further stated that the accused were handed over to South Police Station, Kohima, for further investigation.
In an unrelated programme, Kohima battalion of Assam Rifles had conducted a lecture on ‘Use of clean fuel (LPG)’ at Chedima village community hall on August 29.
Altogether, 26 local residents including village chairman, GBs, and youth organisation of Chedima village attended the programme.
