Dimapur, Mar. 2 (EMN): The Kiphire battalion of the Assam Rifles along with the Nagaland police personnel nabbed one person, suspected to be a cadre of the NSCN (IM), who was said to be in possession of arms and ammunitions, on Mar. 1 from Phuvkiu- Pungro road in Kiphire district.
The accused was arrested by the combined team which had set up a mobile check post to curb smuggling of arms within the area, it was informed. The Assam Rifles issued a press release informing about the case.
During search, it was informed, the team apprehended the individual in possession of illegal arms and ammunition along with one country-made .22 mm pistol, a magazine, 16 live rounds, two mobile phones and a motor cycle (Yamaha; registered as NL 01E 2504).
The apprehended individual was identified as self-styled ‘Rajapeya’ Tomomusu Yimchunger (55) of Phuvkiu village in Kiphire district. The accused was suspected to be a member of NSCN (IM), it was informed.
The Assam Rifles stated in the press release that the accused along with the recovered items were handed over to Pungro Police Station for further investigation.
