DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 18: Troops of 9 Assam Rifles apprehended one alleged NSCN (K) cadre in an operation at PR Hill in Kohima on September 18 night.
The cadre bearing No 19824 was identified as ‘SS’ Lance Corporal Imkongakum Ao @ Akum (27), son of Zulu Temba Ao of Akhoya village under Changtongya police station in Mokokchung district.
Assam Rifles release said the individual was highly intoxicated at the time of his arrest, adding several commonly used drugs including ALTOPREX-CT cough syrup, injection Dexona, and tablet Alprazolam were recovered from him.
It said information was received of NSCN (K) cadre involved in extortion/ tax collection activities amounting to Rs 30,000 from local shopkeepers at gunpoint in Kohima town on September 15 following which a specially constituted team tracked the cadre and caught him from a house at PR Hill, Kohima, at 0145 hr on September 18 along with extortion slips of Ministry of Chaplee (Finance Affairs) NSCN/GPRN-K.
The cadre revealed himself as an active member of NSCN (K) since August 2014 and has been receiving the orders to collect tax from Town Commander, the statement said.
AR statement further added that the apprehension of cadre would dent the extortion racket of NSCN (K) in Kohima and provide relief to locals who are harassed on a daily basis by the menace of illegal taxation and extortion.
