Dimapur, Sep. 16 (EMN): Troops of 5 Assam Rifles, during an operation, arrested one NSCN (K) cadres in Asuto village under Zunheboto district on September 14.
The accused has been identified as Itoka Awomi (31), son of Shetoi Awomi and resident of Asuto village in Zunheboto. He was reported to be a ‘self style’ Raja Peyu of NSCN (K).
During the operation, the troops seized one 7.62 mm Assault Rifle, two 7.62 mm rifle magazines, one hundred sixty three live rounds of 7.62 mm and three live rifle grenade from his possession.
The apprehended individual along with the recovered items were handed over to Zunheboto Police Station for further investigation, AR statement said.
In an unrelated programme, troops of 22 Assam Rifles conducted a free medical camp at Government Middle School in Ziphu village under Phek district on September 14.
The aim of the medical camp was to provide free medical treatment to local populace and students of remote areas devoid of requisite medical facilities. A specially constituted team under Assistant Commandant Balmuri Avanish, Assam Rifles Medical Officer, examined 42 people including 15 males, 24 females and 3 children.
The team also carried out medical check-up of 32 students of Government Middle School, Ziphu. Free medicines were provided to the ailing. Apart from the medical assistance, basic knowledge on epidemic diseases including precautions was also imparted.
