KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 23
Against the backdrop of the state Governor PB Acharya purportedly backing the Assam Rifles issuing strictures to five media houses in Nagaland, Chief Minister TR Zeliang today clarified that what the governor has said is not the stand of the state government.
Addressing a press conference at the Chief Minister’s Residential Office, Kohima on Monday, Zeliang said he came across the statement “only today” and he would discuss the matter with the Governor, who is currently out of station, as and when he returns to Kohima.
When asked why the state government has chosen to remain silent on the issue, the Chief Minster refused to divulge, saying an official statement from the state government will be issued later.
Meanwhile, Naga People’s Front (NPF) President, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu who was also present at the press conference, conveyed the party’s backing on the state media. Although he did not elaborate on the issue, he told members of the press, “We are with you.”
“The party will issue a formal statement on its stand on the issue later,” informed a party representative.
