DIMPAUR, MAY 22 : ASSAM Rifles, in yet another unique initiative, has taken on a campaign to light up each and every house with eco-friendly miniature solar lamps which could be easily placed and hung as per requirement. It has aimed to distribute 5,000 solar lamps in all remote villages with solar power.
Electricity is yet to reach in the remote villages on the Indo-Myanmar Border. The residents finished their chores by last light and spend the hours of darkness by candle light as few could afford generators. The absence of light impacted the students the most, which accounted for migration to towns.
The distribution of solar lamps is an ideal assistance to the students of these villages to enable them to study in the absence of electricity and would help the locals to uplift the quality of life. These solar lamps, when fully charged, could provide uninterrupted light for 6 hours and being portable, it could be placed on table and hung on wall as per the requirement.
The people friendly initiative under taken by 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South), got overwhelming response from the school fraternity of these remote and bordering villages and also local populace. Security Forces exhorted the locals to preserve the environment by adopting alternative energy in a major way, which would also ensure a safer environment and future for the coming generations.
Meanwhile, the local people have lauded the efforts of the Assam Rifles for undertaking such benign projects with humane approach keeping environmental safety in mind.
