DIMAPUR — In line with the week-long tree plantation drive initiated by Eastern Command, the Assam Rifles organised a plantation drive in Kohima on Tuesday on the theme "Ek Ped Maa k Naam".

A defence release stated that Assam Rifles personnel, their families and 110 students of Assam Rifles Public School carried out mass plantation and planted 500 saplings in Kohima. The tree saplings included a mix of local species and fruit-bearing trees sourced from the region.

It stated that the initiative aims to enhance environmental sustainability and foster a sense of ecological responsibility among the local community. The effort also underscored the importance of community involvement in environmental conservation, it added.

It further mentioned that the tree plantation drive was part of a broader effort by the Assam Rifles to engage with and support the communities they serve, demonstrating their dedication to environmental sustainability and community development.
