Imphal, Nov. 12 (EMN): The Somsai Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General of Assam Rifles (IGAR-South) in a joint operation with Police Bomb Disposal Squad foiled an attempt to target locals in Manipur’s Ukhrul town,84 km north-east of Imphal on November 11.
“Based on specific inputs from police, in joint ops the troops of Somsai Battalion and Ukhrul police detected a grenade in Ukhrul town,” stated PRO Assam Rifles(South) in a press release on Saturday.
“The entire area was cordoned and traffic was diverted to prevent any loss of life and property. The Police Bomb Disposal Squad neutralised grenade in Ukhrul town.”
In another development, the Churachandpur Battalion under the aegis of IGAR-South, in a joint operation with Manipur Police, apprehended an active insurgent of a proscribed group Chin Kuki Liberation Army (CKLA) at Dorcas Veng, New Lamka, Churachandpur District on November 11.
Based on specific input, the troops of Assam Rifles along with Manipur Police launched an operation which led to the apprehension of the cadre. One 9mm pistol along with 11 live rounds were also recovered from the insurgent, it said.
The apprehended insurgent and recovered items were handed over to Churachandpur Police Station for further investigation, it added.
