Dimapur, Nov. 17 (EMN): Continuing with the civic action programme, Assam Rifles conducted various activities in different districts of Nagaland particularly for the benefit of people living in remote areas.
Tobu: Headquarters 7 Sector of Assam Rifles assisted Tobu in Mon district get its first SBI branch, which was formally inaugurated on November 13. The assistance in opening an SBI branch at Tobu was a part of the commitment of Assam Rifles to work for the people and with the people, a defence release stated.
Deputy Commander of 7 Sector AR, hailed the opening of SBI branch as the harbinger of new opportunities for development of Tobu and adjoining areas. He also informed that 34 students from the four districts of HQ 7 Sector Assam Rifles had joined Sainik School in Punglwa and hoped that the ongoing efforts would result in even larger number of students being enrolled there in the coming year.
He also exhorted the gathering to make use of the facility provided by the Sector to enable the aspiring students join the army as officers, for which coaching classes were being organised.
Kenjenshu village: In a drive to encourage sporting activities in the remote areas of Tuensang district, Tuensang battalion of the Assam Rifles constructed a football field for residents of Kenjenshu village under Tobu sub-division in Mon district. It stated that functionaries and youth of Kenjenshu and nearby villages have appreciated the contribution of the Assam Rifles in creating a platform for facilitating recreational and sporting activities.
Kohima: Kohima battalion of the Assam Rifles facilitated 30 students with a three months ‘Assistant Beauty Therapist’ course in coordination with Pradhan Mantri Kisan Vikas Yojana from June 25 to September 23. It stated that four students from Kohima were successfully placed in Chandigarh on November 9. All students were felicitated with certificate from NSDC.
In another programme, Kohima battalion of the Assam Rifles facilitated children of Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home with two computer sets along with accessories, two toilets block and a television set on November 14.
The facilities were installed with an aim to ensure healthy and hygienic practices and to avoid ailments. The toilet block along with IT equipment were handed over to Neibanuo Angami, chairperson of Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home, Kohima.
Mon: Tuensang battalion of the Assam Rifles also distributed sports items consisting of carom board, badminton sets, football kits and miscellaneous sports items to Chingnyu, Tamkong, Yanching, Shamnyu and Mopang villages in Mon district on November 13. The items were provided with aim to motivate local youth of remote areas to take up sports and utilise spare time in pursuing constructive activities.
The same battalion also distributed two water storage tanks (2000 litres) to Anajangyang and Kenjenshu villages in Mon district on November 13. It was provided to facilitate residents in saving time and effort spent for fetching of water from far distance and also to ameliorate the various challenges faced by residents of those remote border villages.
Mokokchung: Mokokchung battalion of the Assam Rifles have begun students’ outreach programme for training and motivating local students of remote areas to prepare for entrance examinations to Sainik School in Mokokchung and Longleng districts.
It stated that shortlisted and interested students would be provided with structured tuitions under the supervision of the battalion. Altogether, 14 students are presently attending the coaching classes.
Phek: Phek battalion of the Assam Rifles celebrated Children’s Day at Assam Rifle Public School in Phek town on November 14. Commandant of Phek battalion delivered a speech on the occasion and motivated the students to work hard in order to excel in life. The speech was followed with an interaction between the students and teachers of the school.
A small scale funfair and games was organised for the students.
