DIMAPUR — In a
dedicated effort to support environmental sustainability and foster community
engagement, the Assam Rifles conducted a tree plantation and Swachhta
(cleanliness) drive in Tsupfume village on December 12.
A defence release stated that the initiative was aimed at
promoting environmental awareness and sustainable living practices among local
residents. It added that the tree plantation drive symbolised a commitment to
preserving nature and combating climate change with a total of 20 saplings
planted in the village.
The highlight of the event was a solemn pledge ceremony
where all attendees united to reaffirm their commitment to protect the
environment. Following the pledge ceremony, a cleanliness drive was conducted
in the village, where villagers worked diligently to remove litter and clean
their surroundings.
The drive focused on educating participants about proper
waste management, including the segregation of biodegradable and
non-biodegradable waste as well as the dangers associated with open dumping and
burning of waste.
The event saw participation from 40 villagers who actively
engaged in the vital activities.
It further stated that the tree plantation drive pledge
ceremony and cleanliness initiative collectively created a ripple effect,
inspiring collective action and raising awareness about the pressing need for
environmental conservation.
It added that Assam Rifles remains committed to fostering
resilience and unity within communities while addressing critical environmental
challenges.
