
DIMAPUR — As part of its earnest endeavours to promote government of India's flagship initiative to make International Year of Millets 2023 as ‘people’s movement,’ Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North), in collaboration with Farmer's Cell of SASRD-NU and Niuland administration, organised a mega awareness programme for farmers of Niuland and Medziphema at JNV Nihokhu on May 20 on the theme “Millets: miracle food for Nagaland.”
According to a defence release, the collaborative programme was aimed at spreading awareness among the farmers on cultivation of millets including the various health, economic and environmental benefits.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]It stated that agricultural experts Prof. Dr. Pankaj Shah and Prof. L Tongpang from SASRD (NU) deliberated on cultivation, use of millets and their benefits with basic know-how on millet cultivation with reference to climatic and soil conditions of Nagaland in general and Niuland district in particular.

It added that the deputy commissioner of Niuland, Sarah S Jamir, attended the event and shared her valuable inputs and exhorted the farmers to promote millet cultivation in the area.
