DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 2 : Late night reports on Friday have said that the banned outfit NSCN (K) on September 2 evening reportedly ambushed an Assam Rifles’ convoy at Tillomi Bridge near Ghuvishe village of Aghunato area in Zunheboto injuring at least four soldiers.
Although NSCN (K) sources said that “eight-ten (Assam Rifles) soldiers were killed” in the ambush, the reports could not be confirmed till the time this news was filed.
Police officials in Zunheboto were either not reachable nor did they answer when calls were made to them for information. However, reliable sources said that the incident occurred at around 4.30 pm on Friday. The source said that four personnel of the 5th Assam Rifles were injured in the ambush. One of them, identified as a rifleman, and a driver of one of the trucks, was reported to have sustained serious injury. The other three soldiers received minor injuries and were treated at Aghunato health centre before being airlifted to Dimapur, reports said.
NSCN (K) sources also claimed that two out of the four trucks in the convoy ‘rolled off the road’ and down a “stiff cliff when fired upon at close range and the last truck fell into a roadside ditch.” The source claimed that “almost all the occupants of the last truck” were likely killed.
