Dimapur, Dec. 20 (EMN): Having observed that some non-indigenous inhabitants of Nagaland have been acquiring landed property through sale in Dimapur and Kohima districts, the Angami Public Organisation (APO) has reaffirmed its February 9, 2016, resolutions prohibiting acquiring or possessing any land by way of transfer, exchange, lease agreement or settlement by “The Nagaland Land Revenue Regulation (Amendment Act) 1978.
APO stated that transfer of land to any person other than the indigenous inhabitant of Nagaland is detrimental to the interest of the indigenous inhabitant of Nagaland and a blatant violation of the aforesaid Amendment Act of 1978. APO, in its meeting held on February 9, 2016, discussed the matter threadbare and keeping the larger interest of the future generations of the indigenous inhabitant of Nagaland resolved to strictly stand by provisions of “The Nagaland Land Revenue (Amendment Act), 1978.” It resolved not to recognise any past or future transfer of land by way of sale or otherwise which were executed or may be executed in violation of the Amendment Act 1978 and such transactions would be treated as null and void.
APO also appealed to the revenue authorities to look into all such transfer of land executed in the past and registered with the various authorities and take corrective measures by declaring all transactions which were done in violation of the aforesaid Amendment Act of 1978 as null and void.
APO further appealed to all the revenue authorities/ sub-registrars not to register any document evidencing transaction for acquisition or possession of any land by way of transfer, exchange, lease, agreement or settlement as envisaged in “The Nagaland Land Revenue Regulation (Amendment Act) 1978 Section 2(3).”
For any public utility such as educational institution or medical, APO resolved that the concerned individual/individuals or party/parties intending to set up such institutions should take prior permission/sanction from the State government and obtain “No Objection Certificate” or from APO if it proposes to set up such institutions within its jurisdiction.
APO further appealed to all the tribal hobos of Nagaland to adopt the stand taken by the APO in the larger interest of the future generations.
