Kohima, April 13 (EMN): Come May 2, Ao community under the aegis of its apex body- the Ao Senden, will be celebrating one of its major festivals ‘Moatsü’ strengthening ties not just within the community but with its Naga neighbours.
It was learnt that the Ao Senden, in its recently held presidential meeting, decided to strengthen inter-tribe relations by bringing together various tribes in unity, considering the prevailing situations in the Naga society today.
As a starter, the Senden has extended its hand to the Angami community this year to celebrate ‘Moatsü’ together.

In response to the call of friendship by the Ao Senden, the Angami Public Organisation (APO) will be mobilising 1000 delegates to join the Ao community in the festivities at Imkongmeren Complex in Mokokchung on May 2.
“This is a historic event and a very healthy approach to reviving inter-tribe relations in our society,” says APO president Dr. Vilhusa Seleyi.
He said traditionally and culturally a relationship exists among all the Naga tribes. He, however, said the approach of the Ao Senden is a positive one, particularly at this juncture. He said APO resolved to support the Ao community.
Ao Senden acting general secretary, Tally Longkumer informed that the Senden recently took a decision to build better relationships with all the Naga tribal bodies by inviting them to celebrate the community’s festival together each year.
The Senden is expecting more than 50,000 people to participate in the festival celebrations this year. The event on May 2 will be graced by Chief Minister Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu as the chief guest and the APO president Dr. Seleyi as the guest of honour while the presidents of Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) and Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) will also address the community.
Ao Nagas observe Moatsü festival to evoke blessings for a good harvest after sowing new seeds. The festival is marked by folk songs and dances, feasts and merrymaking.
