Kohima, Feb. 10: Members of the Aonokpu Village Council, in Mokokchung district, visited the grave of Bendangnungsang Longkumer in Kohima town this morning as part of homage to him, one of the two youths who were killed when the police opened fire during agitations on January 31 in Dimapur.
Aonokpu is the native village of the late Longkumer.
Paying their respects, a member of the village’s council said that their deaths will not go in vain. They have sacrificed their lives for the cause of the people, he said.
The members of the village council have acknowledged the Angami Public Organisation and the Angami Youth Organisation, all other tribal hohos and the public in general for the service and sacrifices rendered to the two youths.‘Though it is our duty to make all the necessary arrangements,’ a village council member said, the tribal organisations did everything before the village council could reach them.
The sacrifices made by the two youths have strengthened the bond between the communities, they said, and that the ‘brotherhood, unity and oneness’ should continue in the days to come.
Members of the village council laid wreaths and conducted a mass prayer for the departed.
