Mokokchung, Feb. 28 (EMN): The Assembly Constituency Congress Committee (ACCC) of 26th Aonglenden assembly constituency in Mokokchung conducted a meeting on Thursday to discuss matters concerning the forthcoming by-elections to the constituency, and the Lok Sabha elections.
The meeting was hosted by District Congress Committee’s (DCC) advisor Satemliba Jamir, at Sangtemla ward. Officials from the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), Mokokchung DCC; ACCC; and women and youths wing of the party attended the meeting.
At the meeting, the party workers unanimously resolved to support whosoever the candidate the Congress proposes.
P Aley, general secretary of Mokokchung DCC highlighted the party’s plans and strategies for the elections. He hinted at an arrangement between the Naga People’s Front and the Congress for the by-elections, but not much information was disclosed.
He encouraged the ACCC of 26th Aonglenden saying that the elections will be a Herculean Task but it will be worth for the party in getting to emerge victorious in its endeavour.
Alemjungshi Longkumer, retired additional secretary, who is seeking the Congress ticket to contest in the by-elections, was also in the meeting.
Longkumer spoke at the meeting. He disclosed that his interest to contest in the elections on the Congress ticket was because he had a long association with Congress, of more than 30 years.
Longkumer asserted that the Congress was a community-based party, a party for the whole community. “I will be the last man who will stand with the party principle till the end,’ he said.
If the party gives him a chance and he wins the elections with their support, his priority will be ‘up-gradates for better healthcare, education; youth, infrastructure and economic development, he said.
Longkumer also asserted that communal harmony will be his mission.
“Becoming an MLA just to run between Kohima and Mokokchung is not needed. All this vision cannot be accomplished without your support,” he said.
Veteran Congress leaders and senior leaders of the party also spoke at the meeting.
