Mokokchung, April 10 (EMN): Mokokchung district is busy as it goes to the Lok Sabha elections and the by-election to the 26th Aonglenden assembly constituency.
Out of ten assembly constituencies in Mokokchung district they are 227 polling stations. 70,052 voters are male and 68,706 are female voters.
Four candidates are in the fray for the lone Lok Sabha seat in the State: KL Chishi (Indian National Congress; INC), Hayithung Tungao (National People’s Party;NPP); Tokheho Yepthomi (Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party; NDPP), and Dr MM Thromwa (independent).
The Aonglenden assembly constituency by-election will be a straight fight between Sharingain Longkumer of the NDPP, and Alem Jongshi of the Congress after O Tinu Lkr of the NPP and Toshipokba of the NPF rolled off their nomination. 12,269 voters in 16 polling stations will be deciding the candidates’ fate on April 11.
Aonglenden segment consists of 6146 male voters and 6290 female voters.
Alila Chang, assistant election officer for Mokokchung informed that all-women teams will be sent to 25 polling stations for the Lok Sabha polls. She informed that the polling stations in the Aonglenden constituency have been identified as ‘vulnerable’ and ‘critical: Eight vulnerable and eight both ‘vulnerable and critical.’
In this connection, Chang assured that adequate security, webcasting facilities and micro-observers have been detailed to monitor the election process in Aonglenden.
Further, Chang informed that out of 227 polling stations in the district, 44 polling stations have been identified as ‘vulnerable,’ 23 ‘critical’ and 11 both ‘vulnerable and critical.’
The Lok Sabha polls and the by-election will be held simultaneously in Aonglenden assembly constituency on April 11.
‘Mock poll’ will start 90 minutes before the commencement of the actual poll viz. at 5:30 am in all polling stations of Aonglenden where simultaneous elections with the Lok Sabha polls will be held, a circular issued by assistant returning officer of Mokokchung, Rajesh Soundararajan, stated.
