DIMAPUR — The
much anticipated CCTV installation and central monitoring project 'Aolan',
named after the Konyak dialect word for 'Eagle,' was inaugurated at the office
of the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Mon town on Tuesday.
The deputy commissioner (DC) of Mon, Ajit Kumar Verma, who
inaugurated the project, congratulated the SP Mon and his team for successful
completion of Aolan project. He has sought the support of civil societies and
public to maintain and avail the facility, an update from Mon Police stated.
Speaking at the occasion, the SP of Mon, Kanchan Kumar
Kandpal, expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed to the
successful launch of the project. He emphasised the importance of community
collaboration in ensuring the project's success.
It mentioned that in Phase 1 of the project, a total of 18
strategic locations in Mon town and 24 cameras along the highway area have been
equipped with state-of-the-art CCTV systems. The installations aim to
strengthen the prevention and detection of crimes, assist in evidence
collection and ensure better monitoring of public safety.
It stated that the central monitoring of those CCTV feeds
would be carried out at a dedicated room in the SP office, Mon, equipped with
specialised staff to ensure round-the-clock surveillance.
It added that the project would expand further in Phase 2,
covering additional locations to enhance security measures comprehensively.
The inaugural programme was attended by civil society
leaders including president of Konyak Union (KU), president of KNSK, other
dignitaries and unit officers, marking a significant step towards enhanced
security and surveillance in the region.
