DIMAPUR — The Ao Students’ Union Dimapur (ASUD) and the Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) have condemned the recent incidents of violence against women in Kohima, including the brutal murder of a young woman and the assault and robbery of another at Agri Farm Colony.
The ASUD, in a statement, expressed deep concern over what it described as “horrific incidents” that have shaken the conscience of society.
According to the union, these acts of violence are appalling, inhumane, and strike at the very conscience of society. It stated that it is deeply disturbed that such heinous crimes are now emerging in the state, long regarded as one of the safest places for women.
Nagaland has always taken pride in being a society rooted in respect, where women could walk freely and fearlessly even at night. But these recent events, it said, challenge that belief and force people to confront the truth that the safety once known is slowly eroding.
The union demanded that justice be delivered swiftly and transparently, stating that the perpetrators must be identified and held accountable without delay. It added that there must be no space for apathy or silence in the face of such barbarity and urged the authorities to ensure thorough investigations, provide every possible support to the victims and their families, and take immediate steps to prevent such crimes from recurring.

The union stated that people must question what has changed and how outside influences, weakening community vigilance and increasing desensitisation to violence, have contributed to this grim reality.
It called upon every Naga student, elder, organisation, and the government alike to rise in defence of women’s safety, stating that “this is not merely about justice for two women, it is about safeguarding the integrity of our society and ensuring that Nagaland remains a place where every woman feels secure, respected, and protected.”
The Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) condemned the murder of Vihozhonu Zao and extended its condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for comfort and strength during this time of grief.
It stated in a message that such a horrific act has no place in a civilised society and deserves condemnation from all right-thinking citizens.
The Organisation further appealed to the government and the law-enforcing agencies to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the culpritinvolved in this heinous crime are brought to justice at the earliest. It stated that such an atrocious act must not go unpunished.
The Chakhroma Public Organisation also called upon all citizens to assist the law-enforcing agencies in any way possible, to remain vigilant, and to uphold unity while the law takes its course.
