Ao Senden accepts retraction by NSCN (IM) leaders over remarks concerning SC Jamir and calls for unity and mutual respect
DIMAPUR — The Ao Senden has accepted the retraction issued by Lt Gen (Retd) VS Atem, Deputy Ato Kilonser of NSCN (IM), and Rh. Raising, Special Emissary to the Collective Leadership of NSCN (IM), over their remarks concerning former Chief Minister SC Jamir on September 16.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Ao Senden said it had received a formal retraction signed by the two leaders, stating that their comments were not intended to hurt the sentiments of the Ao Senden and had been withdrawn.
The development followed a deliberation held on October 3 between the Ao Senden and an NSCN (IM) delegation, during which the latter expressed regret over the remarks, according to the statement.
The Ao Senden, however, had made it clear during the deliberation that the statements concerning Jamir should be retracted by the individual leaders who had made them.

The apex Ao body said it accepted the retraction “in all magnanimity and sincerity”, and appealed to all concerned to move forward in a spirit of unity and mutual respect.
It maintained that no individual or group had the right to deny any Naga citizen the right to express views on the Naga political issue.
The Ao Senden also called on Naga leaders to uphold discipline, fortitude, humility and wisdom, and urged that any action or statement against Naga citizens be avoided in the interest of unity.
The body, however, said it would remain vigilant and reserved the right to take “appropriate action” should the need arise.
