DIMAPUR — The Ao Kaketshir Telongjem Dimapur Government College (AKTDGC) celebrated its golden jubilee on the theme, "Celebrating the power of education," at IMC Hall, Dimapur, on Saturday.
Addressing the gathering as the special guest, Business Association of Nagas (BAN) president L Mongkum Jamir emphasised the importance of growth, economic self-reliance, entrepreneurship and financial literacy for the future of Nagaland.
Reflecting on the institution's 50-year journey, Jamir said significant changes had taken place over the decades and expressed hope that by the time AKTDGC marks its 75th anniversary, the next generation would witness even greater progress and transformation. He stressed that growth was essential both for individuals and institutions.
He said the celebration should not merely be a commemorative gathering but an opportunity for young people to reflect on their identity, purpose and future. Urging students to ask themselves fundamental questions about who they are, what their purpose is and where they are headed in life, he encouraged them to take responsibility for shaping their own futures.
Highlighting the importance of the economy, Jamir observed that Nagaland largely functions as a salary-based economy dependent on government employment. While acknowledging that many students aspire to secure government jobs for stability and security, he pointed out that governments themselves are sustained by economic activity generated through entrepreneurship and business.

He said that economies are built through enterprise and entrepreneurship, and urged students to recognise the importance of contributing to economic growth. Calling on the younger generation to shift their mindset from seeking jobs to creating opportunities, the BAN president encouraged them to become self-reliant by working hard, depending on their own capabilities and avoiding excessive reliance on others.
Looking ahead to future milestone celebrations, Jamir said the younger generation would one day ask whether their predecessors had done enough to secure a better future for them.
He called upon today's youth to make it their mandate to create employment opportunities and strengthen the economic foundations of society.
As part of this vision, he outlined several priorities, including pursuing financial literacy, cultivating the habit of investment, taking entrepreneurship seriously, embracing technology, and fostering unity and cooperation among people.
Speeches were also delivered by AKTDGC's first president, K Tongbang Jamir; AKTD president, Imnatemsü Pongen; convenor of the AKTDGC Jubilee Planning Committee, K Temjen Jamir; and AKTDGC alumnus, Imkong Jamir.
