DIMAPUR — The Ao
Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) has expressed concern and outrage over the recent
statements issued by the NSCN/GPRN (Khango-Hokato Vusshe) targeting Aolemba
Longkumer, a respected entrepreneur and member of the Ao community, in
connection with the MSE-CDP scheme under the Ministry of MSME.
While expressing full support on transparency and
accountability in public matters, AKM has questioned the intent behind the
faction’s singling out Longkumer and stated it raised concerns over potential
bias towards an individual and a specific community.
It added that such actions appeared to be an intentional
attempt to malign the reputation of an esteemed figure and create unwarranted
unrest among the public.
“The faction’s pattern of behaviour has become increasingly
troubling, evolving into a nuisance for the Naga society. Its actions, which
border on organised extortion, are a direct threat to Naga entrepreneurs and
businessmen who are striving to uplift the region’s economy,” the statement
read.
AKM unequivocally stated that it would not tolerate any group
or faction threatening its citizens under any pretext.
Meanwhile, AKM has expressed solidarity with Aolemba
Longkumer and added that any further threats or harassment directed at him
would be taken very seriously and addressed accordingly.
AKM has also questioned the silence and inaction of the
state government on the matter. It stated that the government, as the protector
of its citizens, must take decisive and immediate steps to curb the increasing
activities of factions and their unwarranted interference in public and private
affairs.
“If the elected government cannot uphold the rule of law, it
forfeits its legitimacy to run the affairs of the state,” it added.
AKM has demanded an assurance from the government to ensure
the safety and dignity of individuals like Aolemba, who contributes
meaningfully to society, and also to take a strong and decisive action against
groups and factions involved in intimidation, extortion and harassment.
