Making its third and final stop of a three-district tour, leaders of the Central Nagaland Students’ Association have met with leaders of the Ao Naga community on Wednesday, July 22. The two sides held a marathon meeting in the town and reportedly elicited support from the community over a number of issues the association is said to be fighting.
Accompanied by officials of the All Sumi Students’ Union and Lotha Students Union, senior officials of the CNSA met with leaders of the Ao Senden and the Watsu Mungdang, the apex women organization of the community. Like the other apex organizations of the Lotha and the Sumi community, the Ao community also extended full support to the various causes of the association, the CNSA stated in a press release issued to the media on Wednesday, July 22.
The leaders of the Ao Senden are said to have assured that the Ao Senden, as ‘father’ just like the Sumi Hoho and Lotha Hoho were ‘fathers’ to the students’ bodies, would be extending all moral support to the CNSA.
The CNSA highlighted to the Ao leadership about the association, and the aims and objectives of the official tour in meeting with the apex frontal organizations of the three communities. The association said that it needed the support of the Ao Naga, the Lotha Naga and the Sumi Naga.
The association told the community’s leaders that the main agenda of the CNSA was to fight against the promulgation of the Disturbed Area Act in Nagaland, resolution of the issue about the foothill road, resolution of the border issue with Assam, and issues about the well being of the Tuli Pulp & Paper Mill, among others.
“In this connection, the Ao Senden officials expressed their support towards the just fight of the CNSA. Nonetheless, they also cautioned the CNSA officials to be very precise and practical while undertaking the issues keeping in mind the welfare of the whole Naga society,” the association said.
The Ao Senden’s leaders also urged the CNSA to take up issues concerning the development of Nagaland University Headquarters in Lumami, and of the condition of the Doyang Hydro Electric project, apart from issues concerning Tuli Paper Mill and others.
Leaders of the Watsu Mungdang, while speaking at the meeting, encouraged the CNSA to keep up its endeavor that it was undertaking and to push forward its agenda for a better Nagaland and Naga society.
While saying that the Watsu Mungdang was ‘all with you’, the Ao women leaders also asked the CNSA to look particularly into the current educational system of the state and work towards its development.
After the meeting, the leaders of the students’ organization visited Yajang village and interacted with villagers and the security forces deployed along the border area.
