Mokokchung town has completed the Dog Registration and Mass Anti Rabies Vaccination Drive today.
The process involved all the 18 wards under the jurisdiction of the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) which was covered in two phases. Phase I of the program was on March 15 and Phase II from March 20-22 as reported from the Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer, Mokokchung.During the inaugural function, Dr. Mapumeren Chief Veterinary Officer, Mokokchung in his key note address highlighted the importance of vaccinating dogs against rabies and its related public health safety concern as a zoonotic and notifiable disease. He informed that the anti rabies immunization and Dog Registration is conducted under the National Livestock Mission and in collaboration with Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC).
ADC & Administrator MMC Bendanglila while appreciating the initiative made by the dept. of Vety & AH., hoped that the ward authorities will maintain their Dog Registration and Vaccination Records properly and regularly update the same. With the completion of registration of the present dog population in the town, the MMC Administrator urged the local ward authorities now have the onus of ensuring dogs in their wards are rabies free and the nuisance caused by loose dogs littering public areas will be checked and reigned in.
The program was implemented under the supervision of four veterinary doctors, 37 para vets along with the assistance of the respective ward authorities. Altogether, 2985 dogs were registered out of which 2787 dogs were vaccinated free of cost.
The office of the Chief Veterinary Officer, Mokokchung expressed sincere gratitude to the MMC, the ward executives, Dr. Rongsensosang Longkumer KVK Yisemyong, the office of the DPRO Mokokchung and the public in general for their strong support and assistance rendered during the entire process which has made it a grand success.
