Dimapur, June 3 (EMN): The All Nagaland School Teachers Association (ANSTA) has expressed its appreciation to state government and Department of School Education for introduction of the three language policy and local languages in schools.
ANSTA stated that with the introduction of the local languages would encourage and give opportunity for students to learn his/her mother tongue in the school as approved by Cabinet on April, 26 and notified by the Department of School Education.
With the influence of western culture, rapid advancement of technologies and urban migration which are some responsible factors which makes many children forgets his/her mother tongue and drift them away from their roots and identities, stated ANSTA. In such a situation, ANSTA said the introduction of local languages in school as notified by government is a positive step towards preservation, protection and promoting the local languages and identities.
As per notification, every school would introduce atleast one local language in the school from the next academic 2018 onward where the language teachers would be appointed as per NCTE norms, ANSAT said it may also open up employment opportunity for educated unemployed.
The association also expressed happiness over the timely action of government to protect local languages from being extinction as Naga languages are also now in the list of endangered languages.
It also mentioned that according to the committee findings even though Naga languages are in the list of endangered languages many Naga children are unable to speak their mother tongue and communicate with each other in Nagamese or English even at home. in a press release ANSTA president, Ponchulo Wanthand and general secretary Visato Koso disclosed that a provision is made in the policy where teachers are encouraged to explain the difficult concepts and scientific terms in the mother tongues and children understands easier and better when taught in mother tongue.
Therefore, NSTA hopes that introduction of local dialects in schools will go a long way in preservation and promotion of Naga local languages and identities besides bringing a qualitative change in the education system of the State.
Due to existence of multi-languages in the state there may be some practical problems in the initial implementation of policy, for which ANSTA which is all out for the academic improvement of the children shall extend all possible cooperation to the implementing agencies be it DOSE/SCERT/NBSE, etc. for effective implementation of the programme for the benefits of thousand young learners of the State, it added.
