Wokha March 6: A possible major fire incident was averted at Wokha town on Monday, all thanks to the timely intervention of the district’s fire-fighters.
At around 10.30 am on Monday fire broke out inside the under-construction All India Radio station at Zero Point, Wokha. But it was informed that the staff of Wokha Fire brigade had noticed the fire, thus alerting them instantly.
This enabled them to douse the fire even if the scene was located nearly two and half kilometres away from the fire station. The fire department of Wokha has been in alert since it had received informed from the Wokha village council that the residents of the town would be burning forest for jhum cultivation.
Before the fire could cause much damage it was brought under control, according to an official. Further the department has informed the public to be cautious burning off fallen leaves or twigs inside their compounds, during the windy season.
The department has informed the public to call at 7085738549 for assistance in cases of fire emergencies.
