St. Xavier College, Jalukie, on Wednesday.
- DIMAPUR — ANMA
Integrated Development Association (AIDA), in collaboration with St. Xavier
College, Jalukie, carried out the second phase of the distribution of solar
home lighting systems to 350 rural households across multiple villages.
- According to an update, the initiative aimed to enhance
access to sustainable and renewable energy solutions in remote areas, improving
education, livelihoods, and household activities through reliable lighting.
- The distribution event took place at the St. Xavier College
Auditorium, Jalukie, and was attended by Sentilong Ozukum, SDO Peren; Rev. Dr.
Fr. Roy George, executive director of AIDA; Rev. Dr. Fr. Francis Cheerangal,
principal of St. Xavier College, Jalukie; Dr. Bibiana Lungbila, HR and director
of the solar programmes at AIDA; community leaders; the trained semi-solar
engineers; and beneficiaries.
- Ozukum, on the occasion, stressed the importance of
acquiring all the necessary skills for one's life and congratulated and
appreciated the solar mamas (semi-solar engineers) for their determination and
successful completion of their training.
- The solar home systems were distributed to representatives
from the seven villages of Libemphai, Nzuana, Ngaulong Lodi, N-Gam, Nchen,
Lkiesingram, and Nsenlo, along with the solar mamas.
- Rev. George, in his message, said that rural women play a
crucial role in the adoption, promotion, and sustainability of solar energy,
particularly in regions like Peren district. He added that their involvement
not only accelerates rural electrification but also fosters women’s empowerment
and economic independence.
- It was mentioned that the initiative aligns with AIDA’s
broader vision of promoting renewable energy adoption and climate resilience in
underserved communities. AIDA has solar-electrified 1,800 rural homes so far in
the four states of Northeast India—Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, and
Assam.
- A total of 550 houses in 11 villages of Peren district have
been solar-electrified by AIDA in the span of one year.
