Animal vaccination camp held in Bongkolong

Participants and experts at the awareness-cum-animal health
and vaccination camp held at Bongkolong village on March 7 in Peren.
- DIMAPUR — A
one-day awareness-cum-animal health and vaccination camp was organised by an
expert team from the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, CAU,
Jalukie, Peren, at Council Hall, Bongkolong, on March 7 under the guidance of
the dean, Dr. I Shakuntala.
- An update mentioned that the programme was funded by the
Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) – National Research Centre on
Equines, Hisar, Haryana, under the Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) Fund.
- Dr. Tukheswar Chutia, programme coordinator, delivered the
keynote address and urged the farmers to acquire knowledge and benefit from the
programme through active participation.
- A technical session was also held under the programme to
raise awareness among farmers on various aspects of livestock production,
health issues, and management. A series of lectures were delivered by the
resource persons in the awareness programme, followed by a farmer-scientist
interaction.
- A total of 99 people attended the programme, including 86
farmers and 13 officials from the college.
- Free animal health check-ups, castration, treatment, and
anti-rabies vaccination were carried out during the programme. Moreover,
vitamins, mineral mixtures, probiotics, liver tonics, anthelmintics, and other
veterinary medicines were distributed to the needy farmers, covering a total of
1,881 livestock, comprising 281 pigs, 169 buffalo, 73 cattle, 7 dogs, 13 cats,
and 1,338 poultry.
- Earlier, the chairman of Bongkolong Village Council,
Jangkhongam, encouraged the participants to take advantage of the opportunities
provided by the college for the welfare of their livestock and to boost their
production performance.
