‘Animal Gym’ for inmates in Sajiwa Jail

Correspondent IMPHAL DECEMBER 21 [dropcap]W[/dropcap]ith the objective to bring the inmates in a better way of life and further to keep them healthy, Animal Gym, Imphal upgraded the fitness centre of the inmates at Sajiwa Jail. R.K. Vishwajit Singh of Animal Gym who is also the winner of The Real Hero Award handed over the gym equipment amounting Rs 54,600 to the fitness centre located inside the Jail through the Senior SP of Central Jail and Sajiwa Jail, I.K. Muivah.Speaking on the occasion the Senior SP said that the move of the Animal Gym is very helpful for the inmates in bringing them into normal life and in correcting their conduct. Expressing his gratitude to Animal Gym for providing gym equipments, he said that earlier also the gym has provided gym equipments. More than 120 inmates have been benefited by the fitness centre. Apart from the gym the jail is taking up various initiatives such as giving vocational trainings of making of bags, stools, embroidery, tailoring etc. Besides these, the inmates are provided to get distance education through IGNOU free of cost. He further said that the jail has around 650 inmates at present. He also drew the attention of the NGOs operating in Manipur to extend humanitarian activities for the inmates in both the Central Jail and Sajiwa Jail. Citing some examples of activities taken up by various NGOs in Jails of other states and countries I.K. Muivah also said that 53 NGOs taken up many activities for the inmates in Tihar Jail. Likewise, 86 NGOs provide many facilities to the inmates in Hong KongJail. The inmates expressed their happiness towards the activities taken up by Animal Gym and other NGOs in Manipur. Many religious leaders delivered speech and interacted with the inmates In turn the inmates presented songs to the visiting team.
