Dimapur, Sep. 7 (EMN): A village in Mon district has been named to be ‘adopted’ for a rural development scheme, the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (Sagy).
The government publicity agency the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) issued updates to the media on Saturday informing about the programme.
The Sagy is a rural development scheme broadly focusing on development in the villages.
As part of the rural development scheme Sagy of the ministry of Rural Development, Lok Sabha member Tokheho Yepthomi has adopted Angphang village in Mon district for the year 2019-20, updates stated.
In this regard, the Member of Parliament had convened a meeting with stakeholders on September 6 in the deputy commissioner’s conference hall in Mon, the IPR stated.
The meeting was a preliminary meeting to decide on the village developmental plans which will be subsequently brought under the Sagy scheme, the IPR stated.
Addressing the meeting, Tokheho Yepthomi was stated to have told the gathering that the meeting was called in accordance with the guidelines of the ministry to discuss the scheme, which was launched by the central government and is being implemented across the country.
According to the IPR, Yepthomi the various departments that have been implementing centrally sponsored schemes will be required to put in some contributions to carry out development work in the adopted village. He requested the departments to take note of the meeting’s outcome, discuss it with their heads of departments and accordingly “set aside something” to develop the village “so that it becomes a model village in the district.”
The Member of Parliament said there will be no separate ‘sanctions’ for the scheme and that the departments will have to put in their contributions to develop the village. Angphang village will be the last village to be adopted in Mon district, he said. The ‘next adoption’ will be in other districts, the IPR stated.
Yepthomi said to convene a meeting at Angphang village by the last week of October this year, the IPR stated further. He will be expecting the departments to come up with some kind of arrangements and programmes that will be taken up in the adopted village, the updates said. By the end of January 2020, the IPR stated, he will be submitting his 2nd quarterly report giving detailed reports about different departmental activities in the adopted village.
A presentation about the various schemes and projects that will be potentially taken up was given by the subdivision officer (civil) for Angjangyang, Yanithung Ngullie.
The second presentation was given by Sumit Banerjee, manager of the Indian Post Payments Bank about how Angphang village can have access to digital banking and become financially inclusive, the IPR added.
