DIMAPUR — Following the arrest of the accused, Samuel Zao, in connection with the brutal murder of his 22-year-old niece, Vihozhonu Zao, the Angami Women Organisation (AWO) has urged the police to pursue the investigation with “utmost sincerity and determination,” calling for every individual involved—directly or indirectly—to be brought to justice.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the AWO maintained that the heinous nature of the crime demanded justice “without delay or leniency,” and appealed to law enforcement agencies, the judiciary, and all concerned stakeholders to act decisively to ensure that justice is rightfully served.
While commending the Kohima Police for their prompt action in arresting the prime accused, the organisation expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and all officers involved in uncovering the crime.
At the same time, AWO highlighted the urgent need to strengthen public safety measures in Kohima and beyond amid the alarming rise in crimes against women.

It urged the government to install CCTV cameras in critical and vulnerable areas to deter criminal activity and aid investigations.
The organisation also reiterated its call for the immediate establishment of a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in the state capital, pointing out that the lack of such infrastructure continues to delay the delivery of justice.
“Setting up an FSL will not only enable investigators to act swiftly but also ensure the accuracy and credibility of evidence,” it stated.
Condemning the murder as an act that has “devastated and shattered the community, particularly women and girls,” the AWO demanded stringent punishment for the accused and any accomplices to ensure such violence serves as a strong deterrent.
