DIMAPUR— As an inaugural activity of its educational drive, the Angami Students’ Union paid an official visit to the Nagaland Institute of Medical Science and Research (NIMSR) at Phrieba in Kohima on Thursday.

The union has appreciated the state government and the nodal departments for enabling the long cherished dream of a medical college in Nagaland into a reality. However, the union observed that the said institute was yet to have a full fledged academic building whereas the academic session is supposed to begin shortly and admissions are expected to commence by a month time.

An ASU press release issued by its education secretary, Asato Paphino, and the president, Khriesamhalie David Mere, has appealed the concerned department and the concerned contractors to expedite the works and complete the requisite infrastructures/constructions before the commencement of academic classes.

“NIMSR being a premier institute requiring conducive environment for its functioning, it is felt pertinent to allow the institute to function without any shortage of its need,” ASU said.

ASU has also reiterated its stand that all Grade IV posts must be held by the indigenous inhabitants of the respective district. It stated that the union had notified on certain instances where the said posts are being held by the non indigenous. The union has decided to remain vigilant on such matter and take up necessary measures to curb such practices.

Stating that it would be corresponding to the educational institutions for necessary data collection during its educational drive, ASU has sought support and cooperation from them.
