Kohima, Feb. 7 (EMN): Football team of Southern Angami Sports Association (SASA) and Western Angami Sports Association (WASA) have registered win on Thursday and would vie for the championship title at the ongoing 47th Angami Sports Association (ASA) meet being held at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.
The first match was played between SASA and Chakroma Sports Association (CSA), in which SASA defeated CSA by 3-2 goal. The second match witnessed WASA and NASA team in which the former team thrash Northern Angami Sports Association (NASA) by 4-2 goals. The winning teams -WASA and SASA would meet in the final on February 8 at 12 noon, while NASA would face CSA for the third place at 9 am.
In volleyball women category, SASA defeated NASA, while WASA won over CSA. NASA stood third place after defeating CSA. The final match would be witnessed between SASA and WASA at 9 am.
In the men’s volleyball category, WASA defeated CSA in the first match. In the second match SASA defeated NASA. WASA and SASA would vie for championship.
Speaking at the inaugural function, advisor of youth resources and sports, Er. Zale Neikha, urged the players to be a “true sportsperson.” He has emphasised on discipline to become a master in their chosen field.
“It is high time that the players must choose their area of interest and try to excel in that as mastering in all discipline is hard,” Neikha added. He also encouraged them to aim for the international medal instead of being complacent with the area or state medal.
He has also cautioned against the players of wasting their time on mobile phones by playing games instead of physical exercise which is of paramount importance.
“Nagaland government do not have the resource to provide for all educated youth in the states. Only the merit students survived,” Neikha said. He advised the players to take upon sports as career in life as it has bright prospect in future.
As for the employment opportunity for the sportspersons, the advisor informed that the PDA led government is in the process of framing Nagaland sports policy which would be furnished ‘very soon.’ Once the policy is enforced, employment quota for the players will be revised, he added.
He urged the sportspersons to display good disciple, play with their best and not limit the platform as another sports event of the area level but to take such event seriously. The special guest Neikha declared the ASA meet 2019 open.
ASA president, Viliehu Nguzhü, in his address, stated that the association had decided to conduct only football and volleyball games this year. He also informed that athletic events would be included by next year.
ASA assistant games secretary, Meyieto Sachü, administered the oath taking. Parish priest of St. John Evangelist Church, Khonoma, pronounced the invocation and the programme was presided by the ASA vice president Neiketouzo Kengruse. Megorüzo Chase and Vipiehu Chücha presented folk songs during the event.
