KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 19: The Angami Sports Association (ASA) is all set to organise the Stone Pulling Ceremony on December 3 at Kohima. The event, which is a prelude to the ASA 50th anniversary celebrations scheduled next year, is being organised in collaboration with the government of Nagaland.
Chief minister, TR Zeliang and Alan Gemmel, OBE, Minister Cultural Affairs, British Council, India, will be the chief host and guest of honour respectively, for said programme. This was informed by ASA officials during a consultative meeting held this evening at Kohima.
Interacting with media persons after the meeting, ASA officials also confirmed the presence of Sarbananda Sonowal, the chief minister of Assam, at the stone pulling ceremony.
The Stone Pulling Ceremony, which is expected to gather above 10,000 people, will begin at 11 am from Kohima Municipal Council parking lot, Old Ministers’ Hill and will end at Y. Junction, Old MLA junction, Phool Bhari, Kohima.
This will be followed by a programme of cultural display at Kohima local ground, wherein, the chief host and guest of honour will also be given time to address the public.
As for the participants, over 5,000 youths from all the four Angami regions, dressed in traditional attires, will be taking part in the event, while other participants including the volunteers and guests, is also likely to cross 5,000 mark, informed ASA.
Further notifications will be issued on traffic regulation; however, ASA officials informed that vehicular movement is likely to be affected for two to three hours on the said day, beginning from 10 am to 1 pm. It was further informed that no vehicles would be allowed to be parked on the road side from KMC parking lot till Y. Junction during the stone pulling ceremony.
Apart from the dignitaries, ASA said invitation would be extended to other tribal hohos to take part in the grand event. The consultative meeting was also attended by Minister for Social Security and Welfare, Kiyanilie Peseyie, Minister for Forests, Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Neikiesalie Kire, government officials and leaders of Angami Public Organisation, Angamimiapfü Mechü Krotho, Angami Sports Association and the four units under ASA.
