- DIMAPUR — The
Angami community residing in Delhi celebrated Sekrenyi festival at Nagaland
House, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road in New Delhi on March 1, which was organised by
the Angami Krotho Delhi.
- An update from PRO Nagaland House, New Delhi, stated that
the festival was celebrated, not just to preserve the rich culture and
traditions of the Angami tribe and build stronger bond and friendship but also
sought to enlighten the gathering on why Sekrenyi is celebrated and
significance behind the celebration.
- A panel discussion was held on the need for understanding
and reviving the past traditions as well as opposition on being contradictory
to Christian practices. The discussion also briefly dwelt on how to revive
their culture in present day; why celebrate Sekrenyi; how to celebrate in newer
ways and whether it is adding value to their lives.
- The panelists of the discussion were Rev. Dr. Noulezhalie
Ricky Medom, pastor of NCF Delhi; deputy director of Information and Public
Relations, Government of Nagaland, Kuolie Mere; Vikhilie Terhüja, and
Medovisienuo Dahou.
- Kevijalie Belho, president of AKD, delivered the welcome address
and Rev. Dr. Noulezhalie Ricky Medom said the invocation.
- A song was presented by AKD members and ‘Geizo’ (poetry) was
recited by Ajalie Zuyie, while IAF Group Captain, Vikuoheo Chüpuo, compered the
programme and Kethosinuo Tepa delivered the vote of thanks.
- The event also witnessed an open Naga wrestling competition.
