Dimapur, Feb. 1: Angami Baptist Church Council (ABCC) has expressed utter disappointment at the state government “for giving a deaf ear to the voices of the people pertaining to ULB elections in Nagaland, resulting in loss of lives including one of its members.
ABCC in a press release stated that any government of the day was expected to listen to its citizens on every matter, much more so, a matter of immense seriousness which has evoked state-wide reactions.
“Nagaland has just witnessed what can happen when leaders do not listen. The people have raised their voice in series of protest earlier, and yesterday with their very own lives. The government must wake up and address the issues which every Naga holds so dearly in his or her being”.
It stated that had the state government honoured “that small respite created to understand each other on January 30 with JCC in the presence of NBCC”, then the bloodshed could have been avoided.
“Unfortunately, this will painfully go down in the history of the “opposition-less” NPF-led government and a scar on those whose decision resulted in tragedy.
ABCC shares sorrow and pain with the bereaved families at this time of great loss. It believes that they have not died in vain but for something they believed was right and fair. May God grant consolations to the families”, ABCC stated.
On Tuesday, the Ao Baptist Church Council had also expressed similar sentiment, stating that the government should listen to the people.
